Lakemont Park, the eighth oldest amusement park in the United States, opened its gates for the first time in 1894 as a trolley park in Altoona. Its claim to fame is Leap-the-Dips, a National Historic Landmark that is said to be the world’s oldest rollercoaster. In addition, the park holds an 18-hole miniature golf course, the Island Waterpark and several other rides. Visitors to the park on Wednesdays receive an all-day ride and slide pass plus admission for only $2.00!

For those thirsting for a bit of wine education ~ the Wine & Food Experience tent offers seminars throughout the day with winemakers and chefs. Led by Jill Ditmire, host of “The Good Life with Jill Ditmire” on WFYI-TV 20, the 2005 seminars were made possible by Marsh Supermarkets and the Indiana Turkey Market Development Council. Topics included Seasonal eats, Regional drinks and Think Fresh, to name a few. Thanks to our kitchen partner, the chefs and winemakers have a state-of-the-art kitchen to use throughout the day.

Idlewild Park lies between Pittsburgh and Johnstown and is considered to be one of the most beautiful amusement parks in the country. Founded in 1878, Idlewild offers 16 rides. DelGrosso’s Amusement Park, north of Altoona, was originally established in 1919 as Bland’s Park and is a perfect example of a vintage amusement park. In 2004 three new rides rolled into DelGrosso’s, including the Wacky Worm kiddie coaster, the Free Fall gravity drop and the Crazy Mouse spinning rollercoaster. Known to house “America’s best amusement park food, ” the park is home to the famous, award-winning DelGrosso’s spaghetti sauce, Murf’s famous potato salad and their fresh-made pizza. Visitors can also take a ride on the antique Carouselle. This pay-by-ride park offers free admission, free parking and free live entertainment.

The VINTAGE Telephone Helpline for older people was set up by Warwickshire County Council as a six month pilot in August 2001, funded by the central government Invest to Save budget. The helpline commenced on 6th August 2001, and will remain in service until the end of March 2002.

The Vintage Indiana Wine & Food Festival was developed under the direction of the Indiana Wine Grape Council with help from Jill Ditmire. The Council was created in 1989 to enhance the economic development of the Indiana wine and grape industry. The festival provides the perfect opportunity to introduce Indiana residents to a historical, yet booming, hometown industry. As a result, more people are becoming aware of the 31 wineries in the state of Indiana and the industry’s history dating back to the early 1800’s.
